The D Las Vegas Overview and History

Establishment and Ownership

Located in Downtown Las Vegas, The D is a casino hotel that has been in operation since 1980. Initially known as the Delta Hotel & Casino, it was renamed to its current name in 2002. The property underwent significant renovations between 2012 and 2013, which included a revamped interior design, new gaming spaces, thedcasino.ca and improved amenities.

The D is owned by Derek Stevens, along with his brother Greg and father Frank Stevens. This ownership structure allows for an intimate understanding of the casino’s needs and vision for its target audience. The family-led approach has contributed to the establishment’s unique personality and dedication to providing a welcoming environment for local residents and visitors alike.

History and Evolution

Prior to its current iteration, The D Las Vegas underwent various transformations over the years. In 1980, it was built as part of the larger Downtown area revitalization project initiated by Metro Services, Inc., with an initial budget of $20 million. Initially themed around the luxury and charm of old Europe, the property boasted an impressive collection of antique furnishings and art pieces.

During its first decade in operation, The D experienced moderate success but struggled to compete with other major casinos along the Las Vegas Strip. By the mid-1990s, significant changes were underway as local businesses began rebranding themselves for a more modern audience.
